Criminal Defense Lawyers in Colorado

Criminal Defense

If you are facing Colorado criminal charges there is nothing more important than having an experienced criminal law attorney building your criminal defense. Our criminal defense attorneys understand what is at stake and fight hard to protect your rights.

Our talented criminal defense lawyers in Highlands Ranch will work to diligently examine the facts of your case and assess all of the evidence:

  • Determine whether a crime has actually been committed
  • Whether you have been properly charged
  • Whether the police played by the rules
  • Whether the government has enough evidence against you
  • Whether there are factors that lessen the offense
  • Whether there are defenses to be argued

It is beneficial to hire criminal defense attorneys at the Highlands Ranch Law Center who can help determine if you should accept a plea agreement or if you should exercise your right to fair trial. We draw from years of experience working with the local, state, and federal justice systems and advise our clients based on this working knowledge.

Criminal Defense Law Firm

Highlands Ranch Law Center P.C. is a Highlands Ranch based criminal law firm with the skill and knowledge to investigate, devise, and implement strategic criminal defenses.

We utilize outside resources to strengthen your case and have worked with private investigators, forensic specialists, lab technicians, and handwriting experts in the past.

We represent clients facing all types of criminal charges:

Drug Charges

If you have been charged with drug trafficking, distribution, cultivation, possession, or even prescription drug trafficking you are at a serious disadvantage in court, as laws regarding drug possession do not require the prosecution to prove intent to distribute beyond reasonable doubt.  Many drug crimes carry mandatory minimum prison sentences, even for first offenders or repeated offenders who only had small quantities of drugs. Some drug offense penalties in Colorado are:

  • Jail time
  • Forfeiture of property
  • Loss of your driver’s license
  • High fines
  • Mandatory drug treatment or education program enrollment

Domestic Violence

In the 2007 fiscal year, 13,874 domestic violence charges were filed in Colorado (see: http://www.dvmen.org/dv-110.htm#pgfId-1000593).  Domestic violence is considered to be an act or threatened act of violence upon a person with whom you have been involved in an intimate relationship, including:

  • Current and former spouses
  • Someone you are/were dating/engaged to
  • Someone with whom you have had a child
  • Individuals related by blood or marriage

Assault

Assault is an intentional threat, by act or word, to harm another person.  Assault charges can be misdemeanors or felonies depending on the severity or frequency of threats.  Assault can be elevated to an aggravated level if a weapon is involved.  While frequently connected to battery, assault charges do not require actual physical contact.  Assault charges can result in jail time and other serious penalties.

Sexual Assault

Sexual assault in Colorado is defined as "Any actor who knowingly inflicts sexual intrusion or sexual penetration on a victim commits sexual assault if: 1(a) The actor causes submission of the victim by means of sufficient consequence reasonably calculated to cause submission against the victim's will AND 4(a) actor causes submission of the victim through the actual application of physical force.” (see: http://www.state.co.us/gov_dir/leg_dir/olls/sl2006a/sl_122.htm).

Sentences for sexual assault cases are typically in the same range as crimes like robbery, extortion, racketeering, and major drug crimes.

If you are facing criminal allegations, it is imperative that you hire a lawyer as soon as possible.  A seasoned attorney will help you examine the circumstances of your case to determine the most appropriate action you should take as a result of the charges against you.  Located in the heart of the South Metro Denver area, we practice in Douglas, Jefferson, Elbert, and Arapahoe counties and are easily accessible.

Criminal implication and false allegations can have negative consequences that can influence any legal matters in which you may be involved for the rest of your life. Securing a solid and efficient criminal defense is one way to help preserve your dignity and reputation.

Our Douglas County based criminal defense law firm helps clients stand up against their criminal charges and fights to reach the best possible legal resolution.
